Mayfield welcomed at Chicot Memorial
Chicot County’s medical community has grown once again with the addition of Dr. Michael Bradley Mayfield who will be operating his general surgery practice out of Chicot Memorial Hospital.

Mayfield said that , like most other rural general surgery practices, he will offer a broad spectrum of services including laparoscopic procedures for gall bladder and hernia repairs and endoscopy procedures to screen for colon cancers and check for ulcers and reflux.

After receiving an undergraduate degree in biochemistry form Louisiana State University, Mayfield said he went to medical school at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. He added that he performed his residency at the University of Oklahoma spending two years in Tulsa and three years in Oklahoma City. Mayfield then returned to Tulsa where he spent two years in private practice before moving to Mountain View for the last eight years, he said.

The opportunity to practice with some as “respected and experienced” as Dr. Jack Burge, Mayfield said, had a great deal to do with the family’s decision to move to Chicot County.

Born and raised in Stuttgart, the move also brought Mayfield closer to his parents. But it was the people, he said that most influenced the family. He said the people of Chicot County are friendly and hospitable and made him feel at home.

Kellee, his wife of seven years, and Mary-Margaret, their 19-month-old daughter, are already settling, he said. Mayfield is getting settled in himself and said he has already been out fishing on the lake a few times. He also said that while it might not make him any friends, he still likes to go to LSU football games.

Mayfield added that his area is a lot of agirculitural environment he grew up in. His grandfather, he said, farmed rice and soybeans around Stuttgart and his father has been in the seed business there for over 40 years. “I and my family are really glad to be here.” Mayfield said. “It feels like home for us.”
