Position Summary

The Occupational Therapist Assistant is responsible for directing, modifying and administering occupational therapy modalities of treatment as supervised by the Occupational Therapist.  This person administers treatments and physical agents as directed by the Occupational Therapist, after the Occupational Therapist has evaluated the patient.  The OTA assists with restoration of patient functioning to prevent disability following injury, disease or physical disability.  They assists patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning, while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities.  The OTA participates in operational aspects of the department and participates in QA/PI activities.  They may also participate in all infection control, departmental equipment training, organizational safety and fire safety programs.

 

Education/Work Experience

  • AA degree from a school or college approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association

 

Licenses/Certifications

  • Holds current certificate as Occupational Therapist Assistant
  • Current BCLS certification
  • Maintains current AR State Licensure as COTA

 

Specific Skills

  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English; Additional languages preferred
  • Strong written and verbal skills
  • Basic knowledge of physical medicine, occupational therapy modalities, anatomy and physiology
  • Basic knowledge of occupational therapy machine operation, maintenance and repairs of same

 

 

Physical Requirements

  • Standing/Walking Work (Prolonged periods of standing and/or walking)
  • Medium Work (Exert up to 50 lbs of force occasionally, and or up to 20 lbs frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs constantly)
